SAFETY · DIGNITY · ACCOUNTABILITY

A safer game starts with all of us.

The BAN Community Safe Sport & Safeguarding Centre is being designed to help children, young athletes, families and adults in basketball recognise harm, understand their rights and find appropriate support.

EVERY PLAYER.
EVERY PERSON.
RESPECT · SAFETY · TRUST
Important: online reporting is not open yet

This page is currently an information and readiness hub. The online safeguarding report form and case dashboard will remain disabled until BAN verifies the responsible personnel, restricted case-handling arrangements, referral contacts and emergency procedures. Do not submit sensitive details through public posts, group chats or ordinary BAN Support tickets.

01 / GET SUPPORT

You deserve to feel safe.

Choose the information that fits your situation. You do not have to work out alone whether something is serious enough to ask for help.

I'm a young player

If someone scares you, pressures you, touches you in a way you do not want, asks for secret photos, bullies you or makes you feel unsafe, tell a trusted adult who will listen and help you find support.

For children and young athletes

I'm a parent, coach or teammate

Take a disclosure seriously. Listen without judgement, avoid leading questions, do not confront the alleged person yourself, and promptly use an approved safeguarding route.

For adults supporting others

I have a concern about basketball

Concerns may involve bullying, discrimination, abuse, harassment, grooming, unsafe coaching conduct, exploitation, retaliation or misuse of a young person's information.

For all BAN community members
If someone is in immediate danger

Move to a safer place if possible and contact the appropriate local emergency or protection service now. Do not wait for this website or an online form. If you are a child, go to a trusted safe adult nearby.

For non-emergency safeguarding concerns, BAN must confirm its designated safeguarding contact and approved reporting route before online intake opens.

Ask BAN for the current safeguarding contact route
02 / OUR COMMITMENT

How we will protect people.

Safeguarding is not just a form. It is a set of responsibilities, trained people, clear decisions and accountable follow-through.

Listen and take concerns seriously

Listen calmly, avoid blame, and let the person explain in their own words. Do not interrogate or promise absolute secrecy.

Protect privacy

Collect only what is needed. Safeguarding information must never appear in public feeds, profiles, ordinary support tickets or general notifications.

Refer, don’t investigate

Qualified safeguarding personnel assess risk and coordinate appropriate referrals. Coaches and platform moderators must not conduct their own investigations.

Prevent retaliation

No one should be threatened, punished or excluded for raising a concern in good faith or asking for help.

03 / WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

A clear, private response pathway.

The following is the proposed operating workflow. It must be approved and tested by BAN's qualified safeguarding personnel before case intake is activated.

  1. 01

    Receive

A concern is received through an approved, private channel and acknowledged safely.

  2. 02

    Triage risk

A designated safeguarding lead assesses immediate danger, age, vulnerability and urgent protection needs.

  3. 03

    Protect and refer

Take proportionate safety steps and refer to appropriate child-protection, health, mental-health or law-enforcement services when required.

  4. 04

    Record securely

Keep a factual, minimal record in restricted case storage with access limited to authorised safeguarding personnel.

  5. 05

    Follow up and close

Track actions, check safety, document decisions and close only under the approved case-management procedure.

04 / NATIONAL NETWORK

One national standard. State-level coordination.

BAN's Safeguarding Lead will oversee the national framework, with qualified state coordinators to be appointed as their credentials and responsibilities are verified.

NATIONAL

National Safeguarding Lead

Sets standards, oversees implementation, coordinates escalation and ensures accountability across the network.

STATE & FCT

State Safeguarding Coordinators

Coordinate local prevention, awareness, safe referrals and follow-up within their approved remit. Appointment and contact details will be published only when verified and authorised.

REFERRALS

Verified local support services

Maintain a checked directory of appropriate child-protection, health, mental-health and emergency services. BAN is not a substitute for statutory protection services.

Need-to-know access: state coordinators will not automatically see every report. Access will be restricted by role, case assignment, safety considerations and conflicts of interest.

05 / LEARN AND PREPARE

Knowledge helps build safer sport.

These public resources will form the education layer while the reporting service is prepared.

PRE-LAUNCH READINESS

Before live reporting is enabled

BAN's qualified safeguarding personnel should sign off each control below. The public centre can be designed now; sensitive intake must wait until these operational checks are complete.

  • Named safeguarding lead, deputy and alternate route if a concern involves the lead
  • Verified emergency, child-protection, health and mental-health referral contacts
  • Approved child-friendly disclosure, risk-triage and escalation procedures
  • Restricted case records, role-based access, audit trail and retention/deletion rules
  • Privacy notice explaining limits of confidentiality and when referrals may be necessary
  • Staff training, conflict-of-interest handling and anti-retaliation measures
  • Fictional-case testing, incident-response rehearsal and launch sign-off
