Verification & Standards
How BAN Community approaches identity, professional information, profile verification, talent submissions and the standards expected from members and organisations.
Last updated: 25 September 202601Why verification exists
A basketball ecosystem becomes more useful when people can distinguish a submitted identity from an identity that has passed a defined review process. BAN verification is designed to increase trust in community profiles and create a stronger foundation for networking, opportunities, talent discovery and professional records.
02What may be verified
- Identity and basic account information.
- Basketball role or professional affiliation.
- Club, academy, school, university or organisational affiliation.
- Playing, coaching, officiating or other basketball experience where supporting evidence is available.
- Information submitted for Rising Stars or other specialised programmes.
03The review process
- A member submits the required information through the relevant BAN form.
- BAN or an authorised reviewer checks the submission for completeness and consistency.
- Where appropriate, BAN may contact a voucher, organisation or other relevant source to clarify information.
- The submission may be approved, returned for correction, held for additional review or declined.
- Approved information may receive a verification status or be used in a verified profile according to the relevant feature's rules.
04Verification is not an endorsement
A verified badge or status means only that the information passed the applicable BAN review process at the relevant time. It is not an endorsement of a person's playing ability, coaching ability, character, employment suitability, selection prospects, financial reliability or future success. Users should make their own professional and recruitment decisions using appropriate due diligence.
05Evidence and accuracy
Members must submit information honestly and must not fabricate qualifications, statistics, affiliations, awards, age, identity or achievements. BAN may request supporting evidence. If a verified fact changes, the member should request an update. Material misrepresentation may result in removal of verification or account restrictions.
06Privacy and public visibility
Verification information is not automatically public. BAN may collect information needed for review while showing only the fields intended for the relevant public profile. Sensitive information such as passwords, private contact details and verification-only documents should not appear on public registers unless a lawful and explicit basis exists.
07Rising Stars submissions
Players, coaches, academies and authorised community members may submit Rising Stars information where the feature is open. Remote and underserved basketball communities are welcome to submit profiles. Publication remains subject to review, completeness, safeguarding requirements, age-appropriate consent and available editorial or verification capacity.
08Organisation and academy standards
- Use accurate organisation names and contact information.
- Do not submit another person's information without an appropriate basis or permission.
- Do not use BAN verification to imply an accreditation, contract, scouting guarantee or official appointment that does not exist.
- Maintain appropriate safeguarding procedures when working with minors.
- Respond honestly if BAN requests clarification about a submitted affiliation.
09Review, correction and appeal
If a member believes a verification decision contains an error, they may contact BAN with the relevant profile or verification reference and supporting information. BAN may review the record, request clarification and correct information where appropriate. A request for review does not guarantee a particular outcome.
10Standards may evolve
Verification standards will evolve as BAN grows, new professional categories are added and better evidence becomes available. Updated requirements may be published on this page or within the relevant application flow.
